Working with bubble and glass effects in Adobe Photoshop
I receive requests all the time for tips on creating various sorts of bubble and crystal ball effects in Adobe Photoshop. And there's never really any one simple answer to this: Too much depends on the background image, the shape of the bubble and the lighting of the scene. But I can provide some basic tips for getting started, which you can then extrapolate to suit your particular needs.

Believe it or not, this is our first review of a piece of software from Andromeda Software. Andromeda has been in the Photoshop plugin business for quite a while, producing a wide range of effects filters and utility plugins for both Macintosh and Windows. Not coincidentally, the piece of software at hand--RedEyePro for Adobe Photoshop--is their first release for Mac OS X.

75 natural-media brushes for the open-source image editor
Today I offer you two weeks' worth of free downloads, since last week I wasn't able to post anything, owing to the fact that I was trying to figure out how to create the very collection that I'm giving you today. This collection of brushes is for a relative newcomer to the Mac platform--Film Gimp--and, in fact, not a native application at all. But we'll get to that later.
Among the more beautiful new Photographic filters in PhotoImpact 8 is Diffuse Glow. This filter is terrific for enhancing dappled sunlight and images with high contrast. It creates a gauzy, ethereal look that is very appealing.
