![]() Delving into directionality to create 'Spirographic' brushes This is our fifth exploration into the Paint Engine in Adobe Photoshop 7. Since so many of the remaining parameters in this program are self-explanatory, I thought we'd break away for a while from simple feature explanations to a more practical look at what you can do with some of the Paint Engine's dynamics--in this case directionality for creating geometric and "Spirographic" line effects. ![]() 3D landscape and atmospheric effects suite We've examined several dedicated software packages for creating scenery--from atmospheric effects to landscapes to seascapes. They're all over the place, as plugins for for applications like Adobe Photoshop and Discreet Combustion and as standalone applications. And they offer several different approaches to the problem of creating photographic scenery, some 2D, some 3D, some specific to sky or water effects, some attempting to incorporate all into a single package. But what makes any one of these packages stand out?
![]() 35 assorted custom brushes for Adobe Photoshop 7 The Paint Engine in Adobe Photoshop 7 affords a seemingly endless set of options for generating new and unusual paint brushes. This week's download includes a number of these, ranging from soft, textured brushes to "Spirographic" effects that can follow the motion of your stroke or even be used to stroke a path. And, as usual, they're all free. ![]() Vector rendering plug-in for Newtek LightWave Having tried the standalone version of Swift3D 1.0 back in the late summer of 2000, several problems immediately cropped up that led to me proclaiming the product not at all useful for my needs. As I was not writing product reviews at the time, that proclamation was pretty much heard only by myself. But now that I've gotten my hands on the LightWave plug-in version of Swift3D, now in its second iteration, I have the opportunity to explain just how nicely the Swift3D concept has evolved to an audience that probably, by now, could very well number in the double digits. Studio MX Plus, DevNet also announced Macromedia has announced Freehand MX, the latest release of the company's vector illustration suite. The new version gains several new creative tools and also sees some interface tweaks to bring it in line with the rest of the MX family. Macromedia has also announced Studio MX Plus and a new subscription service called DevNet. Freehand MX and Studio MX Plus will be available today. DevNet will launch in March.
