New output, content reuse features added in forthcoming release Quark Inc. today provided a second peek into its forthcoming release of QuarkXPress 6. Last time around, Quark showed off a few of the features that would appear in the new version; this time the company's providing users with an overview of the new version, including additional features and other enhancements to the software. QuarkXPress 6 will support Mac OS X and Windows 2000 and XP. It will not support Mac OS 9. ![]() Masking plugin for Adobe Photoshop Masking is one of those chores that only the most ascetic of us can appreciate, and then only when we have something really awful to atone for. It's laborious. It's time-consuming. And it's sometimes futile, a fact many of us discover only after hours of attempting to mask out individual strands of hair at 800x magnification. If only a piece of software would come along that could help alleviate the pain....
![]() Stamping and merging layers This week we launch into a new series on Adobe Photoshop, a series that will periodically provide quick and easy productivity tips for Adobe Photoshop users. Photoshop, which is, obviously, one of the more mature applications for creative production, is loaded with little secrets that beginners, intermediates and even long-time users may be unaware of. The tips we show you in this series may do nothing more than save you a little bit of time or save you from the frustrations of dealing with lengthy, repetitive tasks in complex images. ![]() 18 SVG filters for creating color and noise effects This week we enter into a new category in our series of weekly downloads--filter effects for Adobe Illustrator 10. Owing to that program's ability to incorporate XML into its repertoire of effects, users can simply import an apparently endless variety of filters for a broad range of uses. And, of course, developers can create these filters without having to go through the usual API flaming hoops that keep filter development out of the hands of those of us with no programming experience. Hooray! ![]() Macromedia’s Director MX Like Rodney Dangerfield, Director doesn’t get much respect. It’s still one of the most powerful and versatile multimedia development packages available, yet its capabilities have been overshadowed by Flash. As multimedia content has shifted to the Internet, developers have shown a preference for Flash’s more efficient handling of vector graphics and its smaller browser plug-in. That could change as more computer users sign up for broadband and Web developers rediscover the media-rich power of Shockwave (Director’s browser plug-in). We are working on on adding new leaders to the DMN Forum's host panel to help champion our forums.
