![]() Part 1: Masking complex images interactively Some people will look at the sample image on the right and say, "Neat. Elephants." Those of you reading this article are more likely to say, "I'm glad I'm not the one who has to mask that image!" And those of you writing this article are definitely saying, "Why am I writing another tutorial on masking when I hate masking more than any other job in graphic design?" Man, I'd hate to be that guy. Top VPs call upcoming 64-bit box "World's Fastest Personal Computer" DMN's Charlie White talked with Apple Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, Jon Rubinstein, and IBM's Chekib Akrout, Vice President, PowerPC & Networking Technology Development, Microelectronics Division, about the new Mac G5s introduced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2003) in San Francisco. Apple has entered the twenty-first century with the new Power Mac G5, the fastest Mac we've ever seen and a enormous improvement over its predecessor, the G4. Now, Apple will soon be selling computers that are in an entirely different league. It's time to celebrate. But all is not sweetness and light. Unfortunately, Apple's media flacks, those prevaricating Pinocchios of PR led by CEO Steve Jobs, the Joe Isuzu of computerdom, decided to do a little sleight of hand to make the G5 seem even better. Maybe it's time we take a look at one of Apple CEO's favorite words -- "incredible" -- and see what it really means.
