Wildform Wild FX Pro 3
Automated title effects tool for Flash and QuickTime

You're probably familiar with Wildform from the company's Flash tools, including Flix Pro, which was the first standalone utility for vectorizing video and converting QuickTime movies to the .swf format. Now they've released Wild FX Pro, a titling animation suite that moves beyond Flash and into broadcast video, bringing with it the ease of use and variety I've come to expect from Wildform--and at an affordable price to boot.

Cinema 4D Quick Tip: Keeping It Simple
Modeling and animation techniques that save time

Oh sure, everyone knows that we're supposed to keep our projects simple to ensure production efficiency. However, when you put any 3D tool in the hands of a designer, sometimes all of the buttons and functions can get too overwhelming, and we want to press them all. In a 3D package like Maxon's Cinema4D, which affords users multitudes of modeling and animation tools under readily available icons, many designers find themselves "playing," when simple solutions are equally easy to find.

InDesign Quick Tip: Displaying Transparency
Working with display preferences and overprint preview
InDesign lets you set global defaults for displaying transparency in the Display Performance dialog box (Preferences > Display Performance). The display options in the View menu let you override the global display settings for individual document windows, and the Display Performance options in the Object menu let you control the display of individual objects.

Siggraph from Beyond
Life, death, the Mac and other points of interest from the exhibition

Here's the problem with being a Mac journalist for the creative professional market. You go to a show like Siggraph; you see about a billion new and fantastic pieces of software months before they're released; and you can't say a word about these things to your readers ahead of time, so the pressure builds up until your head explodes. And so, dear reader, I write my report on the Siggraph 2003 convention to you from beyond the grave, for the pressure was just too much to bear.

Weekly Download: Freehand MX Styles, Series 1
15 wet and creamy edge effects

This is my first collection of object styles for Freehand MX. Not knowing exactly what Freehand users are looking for in their styles, I've decided to create a fairly general-purpose collection, one that generates wet edge effects, some resembling creamy paint styles, others emulating the kind of runny styles you might get from watercolors. Read on for download and installation instructions.
