![]() Procedural texture generation suite for Adobe Photoshop In this world there are two types of texturization filters: image-based and procedural. The former is good for getting quick results for common texture styles--canvas, sandstone, brick and the like--and there are plenty of plugins of this sort available. (Alien Skin's excellent Resurface plugin comes to mind.) But, in the end, image-based filters limit you to the resolution of the base texture and the creativity of the developer. Procedurals, on the other hand, offer unlimited creativity and resolution, but at the cost of efficiency (and, often, practicality). However, Digital Anarchy has found a way to combine the creative potential of procedurals with practicality and efficiency in an expansive, well designed plugin suite for Adobe Photoshop called Texture Anarchy. ![]() Working with set-driven keys In a followup to last week's simple guide to using XPresso in Maxon's C4D, this week we'll look at the practical advantages to XPresso in 3D animation production. While C4D has made the ability to script attributes very easy to understand, it remains an overlooked treasure in the current standard package. The use of drag and drop techniques is all one needs to start accessing the advanced controls. Similar to Adobe After Effects' Expression pickwhip executions, Maxon has provided "click this" operations that will help you to add XPresso formulas to your project. If you're new to XPresso, this will definitely help you ... and change the way you think about animation. ![]() New versions boast worthwhile features, identity crisis Flash sure has come a long way over the years, from its humble beginnings as a novel Web animation program (that wasn't even a Macromedia product) to today's juggernaut interactive authoring suite. And while it seems like only yesterday that Macromedia released Flash MX, it's time yet again to roll out the red carpet and welcome another version of Flash into the fold. Did I say version? I meant versions, as we now have two, two, two flavors of Flash to collectively deal with. ![]() Everything you could possibly want to know about working with guides If you're used to other layout applications, you may be unaware of all the things you can do with ruler guides in InDesign. In this tip you'll learn everything you could possibly need to know about the subject, including locking, snapping, copying and pasting, layer management, stepping and repeating, aligning and more. If you use guides in your work (if you're not you should), read on. Stroking and Roving in AE6.0 Classic B-movies used all sorts of low budget conventions to get the hero from one exotic location to the next. Raiders of the Lost Ark paid homage to these classic movies and techniques by using the now classic animated line moving from country to country tracking the flight path of the plane the hero was traveling in. In this After Effects exercise, we’ll recreate that classic B-movie shot using modern day technology.
