![]() Part 1: An introduction to the basics of the medium With the print and Internet publishing industries still recovering from their three-year-old slump, designers, in order to survive, have to seek opportunities wherever they arise. One such opportunity still in relative infancy is graphic design for DVD. I'm not talking about commercial DVD production for movie studios. If you're in that business already, you're set. If you're not, good luck. What I'm talking about is the proliferation of DVD among a whole range of production services with one thing in common: the need for high-quality graphics design services. ![]() 16-bit image correction filters for Adobe Photoshop If you perform image corrections for a living, you're no doubt aware of the limitations of Adobe Photoshop when it comes to working with 16-bit images. Yes, you can perform a few color correction tasks, and you have access to a short list of 16-bit-aware filters. But most of Photoshop's useful tools are completely unavailable. Hence this week's free download, featuring a range of brushes for generating hair and fur effects. ![]() How to turn any spline IK joint setup into a soft body and use it in your animations This tutorial will show you steps you can take to turn any spline IK joint setup into a soft body and how you can use it in your animations. Spline IK has many uses. You can use it to make a character's back stretch, you can use it on a creature's tail, or tentacles. It's often considered confusing and complicated, but I'll show you how to bring it all together. A workflow overview Profound Effects Useful Things is a wonderful addition to Adobe After Effects. With it you have the ability to create over 300 effects – many come with the app, while others are created by a huge user base. For some users, the way you create an effect can be a bit daunting. In this overview, I’ll walk you through the process of creating one of my favorite Useful Things effects.
