![]() An exploration of the new functionality, plus a mini-tutorial on dealing with noise In our last foray into Adobe Photoshop, we discussed alternate tactics for flushing out the detail in the shadowy areas of your photographs. But now that Photoshop CS is out, there's a whole new strategy available for manipulating the darker regions of digital imagery. And so, in the first in our series of explorations of the new features in the Adobe Creative Suite, we venture into the realm of new image adjustment tools, starting with the powerful Shadow/Highlight function. ![]() New versions of Photoshop, ImageReady, Illustrator, InDesign, InCopy and GoLive now shipping Adobe has now released the individual applications in its new Creative Suite line of graphics and publishing tools. The company yesterday started shipping the entire suite as a single unit. The new applications now available for individual purchase include Photoshop CS (with ImageReady CS), Illustrator CS, InDesign CS, InCopy CS and GoLive CS. They're available for Mac OS X and Windows. ![]() 20 crayon and chalk brushes It's been seven weeks since our last set of brushes for Adobe Photoshop, if you can believe it. I thought I'd rectify this now in our fiftieth--yes, fiftieth--free weekly download. This time around, we go back to the basics (the very basics) with a collection of brushes designed to emulate children's crayons, as well as variations on chalk, some similar to the kind you'd use on a chalkboard, others more pastel-like. Read on on for examples and download and installation instructions. ![]() Part 2: Exploring color options for menu highlights using overlays Last week we took a look at most of the possibilities available for creating custom button highlights in DVD Studio Pro. The process involved creating highlights within each individual button in your menu, which is probably the better way to do it in most cases. But there is an alternate method, that of using overlays. So today we'll take a look at this method and also wrap up our discussion of customizing colors for menu- and button-based highlights. A sequel to "Reconstruction & Repair of Heavily Damaged Photos" A few months ago I wrote an article on the repair of heavily damaged photos. From the responses I got to that article, it has come to my attention that there are some aspects I did not cover, and have thus received requests for further explanation. Recently I received an email from Lonny asking for advise on how to repair an old photo of his "little sister". With his permission, I will use this photo to demonstrate some approaches that can be taken when dealing with discolored, stained and heavily spotted photos. As she clearly means so much to him, we will do our best to bring back her smile. We are working on on adding new leaders to the DMN Forum's host panel to help champion our forums.
